I love my custom Terrapin wetsuit! It is the second made-to fit wetsuit I have owned, and the first one (made by another company) fell apart after less than 75 dives! I was somewhat reluctant to make the investment again, but decided to get a Terrapin Minihood and try it out. The difference in the quality was evident very quickly, so I contacted Chris, and ordered a new suit. Several hundred dives later, my suit is still warm and the neoprene has not compressed. I get compliments wherever I go, and Divemasters everywhere love the way that they can pick me out in the water (my Minihood has a Dolphin Fin on top). Chris is great to work with, and my suit fits like a glove! I highly recommend Terrapin, and have also had an “off the shelf” hooded vest customized by Terrapin, adding a zipper, for ease of donning. ... Janine Davis owner, Diversitea

I recently returned from Bonaire, where my show-stopping Minihood had its debut! I have to thank you again, and let you know how much fun that hood stirred up. I was writing down your web address for other divers all week. The really big surprise, though, was when my friend from the UK, Brian M., whipped out his Chicken Minihood you made for him! Truly amazing!!! We had formed the Chicken Divers when we all met in Grand Cayman (long story), but of course now had to dub him "the Grand Chicken" due to the amazing hood. Suits [altered through the mail] arrived fine on Friday, in time for my lake dive. Fit like a glove and the stitching is very impressive. Really appreciate the quick turn around. I just got back from a four day North Florida cave diving trip. It was the first time I had a chance to put the 1/4 inch G231 suit you made me to the test. On the first day we did two back to back one hour dives at an average depth of 70 feet followed by a 97 foot dive for thirty minutes that afternoon. All were in 72 degree water. The remaining days were five and six shorter dives but they all had an average depth of 60 to 80 feet and water between 72 and 68 degrees. The suit kept me toasty; even to the end of the deco stop on the last dive of the last day. I didn't even have to use the hooded vest. I love this suit! Thanks for making it. ... Dan N

Dive Pirates

Adaptive Scuba is a training philosophy that addresses the specific needs of a disabled individual, trains to that specific disability, and then prepares that individual to dive with mainstream Open Water Divers. The Dive Pirates Foundation does this by including as many standard skills as possible and by jointly training with an Adaptive Buddy that can fill in the gaps for the disabled diver. These divers are a team that can dive in most locations with Open Water Divers.

Adaptive Divers are usually those with spinal cord injuries (paraplegic), neurological disorders, or amputations. Divers that are quadriplegic or blind are trained as Escorted Divers that require a team of 3 other divers to dive safely. Both Adaptive and Escorted Divers can dive in the mainstream diving community.

The Dive Pirates Foundation is always looking for Patrons and Dive Buddies to participate and support in the training and outfitting of Adaptive Divers.
