These Mini-hoods are an ideal dive accessory in moderate water temperatures (68 - 86 degrees F). They are easier to get on and off than conventional cold water hoods, and since they are made with the highest quality rubber, they are warmer and will last longer than thin polarfleece hoods. Even if the water temperature is in the mid 80’s, that’s still 10 or more degrees less than body temperature. It is estimated that 85% of the body heat a diver looses is lost from the head, so keeping your head warm extends your comfortable bottom time, and will supplement your insulation without wearing a heavier wetsuit.
Tropical resorts and live-aboard boats offer divers the opportunity to maximize their bottom time (and the associated heat loss from multiple dives per day) increasing the importance of extra warmth from a mini-hood.
Design
The basic hood is the "plain" style, with an upper and lower side panel, side stripe and the center section, all in your choice of colors. The hoods can be "embellished" in any of the styles you see on the website, or you can design your own embellishments to reflect your special business.
Printing
Your logo will be screen-printed by a professional printer using elastomeric ink. The ink is heat-set, which causes the neoprene to shrink a little bit, so the part of the hood getting the logo is printed before it is cut out. Also, this shrinkage prevents multiple screens for different colors from fitting together, so only one color ink can be screened. The portion of the hood that gets printed must be the same in all hoods (same place for the logo on all hoods, same background color on that piece of neoprene, and same color ink on the logo.).
Cost
The Client pays the following costs up front:
one-time $40 set-up charge per logo design
all printing cost, including shipping to and from the printer.
price of the hoods ordered when the printing is authorized. The base price hoods is shown on our accessories price list. I offer a 25% discount for orders of 12 or more at one time.
$10 ea for additional logos ordered for "future hoods". This deposit will be credited toward the price of the hoods when those future hoods are ordered.
There is no longer a minimum order number. This way, if you only want one you can have it, but it will be more expensive than ordering multiples. Multiple hood panels can be printed with one screen (usually 4 is an optimal number). I will be happy to forward your logo to the printer and get an estimate on the cost and the turn-around time for printing. As soon as I receive that information, I'll provide you with a solid quote for cost.
Quantity discounts are also available for orders placed for later shipment direct to your clients, so long as at least 12 are ordered within 60 days. This allows me time to make the hoods along with other orders, thereby achieving the efficiency of a large order. Discount is applied when 12th hood is ordered.
Marketing Options
Custom resort mini-hoods are currently selling in 3 different ways:

Some operators buy specific colors in quantity to sell from stock in their boutique.

Some resorts buy a few to display sizes and styles. I provide color samples. They take orders for their guest’s choice of color, size, and style that I ship direct to the customer’s home.

Still other operators buy for their wetsuit rental stock. These typically rent for $10/week and last for 2-3 years. At the end of the guest’s stay, they can order a hood as in 2 above.
Ordering
Attached is an order form, a purchasing agent’s form for quantities shipped to your resort or boat.
Once we've gone through the set up process, orders can be place for shipment to you or directly to your customers. For orders placed for specific customers, a few at a time, as in method 2 above:
- Your boutique collects your retail cost and shipping cost from the guest,
- Fax or e-mail the order to me, and I'll reply with an invoice.
- Send a check to Terrapin Wet Suits
- I make the hood and ship it to your guest’s home.
If your order is for less than 12, payment should be for the undiscounted amount. However, if 12 or more are ordered within 60 days, the quantity discount applies and credit for this discount can be taken when the 12th hood is ordered.
Payment
Terrapin Wet Suits accepts company checks, and payments through PayPal, but does not accept credit cards directly. Once a payment history is established, we can create a credit account for your company. Credit account invoices paid within 30 days, same as cash. Invoices delayed longer than 30 days accrue 3% interest per month until paid.
